why do car selfies look so much better than selfies taken in other locations? |
After casually collecting fragrances for about a decade, the early aughties discovery of the forums Perfume of Life, Sniffapalooza, and Makeup Alley ramped up my obsession to at least 11 and possibly 12. The world of niche perfumes was far more exciting than the dull department store scents that were available to me in my provincial home of Baltimore, Maryland. (Twenty years on, there are still no good places to buy fragrance in Baltimore. Someone should do something about that.)
I started my first fragrance blog in 2006, after mentioning perfume a few times on my original, knitting-focused, blog, where I also discussed food, Fashion Week, and Project Runway. Around the same time, I wrote a few (not very good) pieces for Sniffapalooza Magazine. My food blog, Minxeats, then became the main focus for a bit. But after nearly twenty years writing about restaurants, specialty food products, and recipes, in addition to co-authoring three books on Maryland food with my husband, Neal (aka Mr Minx), I got a little bored. Minxstinks is actually my third perfume blog, and it has a companion Instagram account (@minxstinks) to promote it, though I'm not sure how much good that's doing.
Outside of blogging, I enjoy reading, walking, and exploring new restaurants. I'd love to get into gardening, but my 60-year-old knees aren't exactly thrilled with the prospect. Eating and perfume shopping in New York is also high on my list of favorite things to do, as is hanging out with my husband and listening to our 16-year-old mutt snore.
